Due to lack of money, a permanent broad-scale service as listed above had to be postponed. Finnmark County Library therefor decided to establish a more small-scale service, mainly concentrated on promoting literature in Kven lan guage and literature about Kven/Norwegian Finn culture and history. The service is organized quite simply as a blog with reviews of new and older books, short bi ographies of authors, information about research publications, links to archival and photographic collections, and a calendar aimed to covering the Kven/Norwegian Finn cultural arena. Besides this, we intend to cover literary edi tions from the Swedish Torne Valley as well, as Meankieli and Kven language are closely related and mutually understood. Four times a year the reviews are col lected in a newsletter distributed to a growing number of subscribers, libraries as well as individuals. Finnmark County Library is responsible for all content, and it is of great importance to us to have a bilingual site with parallel text in Norwegian and Kven. Our intention is to contribute to the visibility of Kven language and even to the development of Kven vocabulary relevant for the liter ary field. The Kven literature Historically the Kvens brought with them Finnish reli gious books and a rich tradition of songs, rhymes, proverbs and stories, which have survived up until today. As for books, Alf Nilsen-B 0 rsskog was the first to give Kven language a literary expression in a series of four novels, Elaman jatko [Life will go on], 2004-2015, describing Kven families in Porsanger in times of World War II and the decades after. This is a richly faceted work, which also in cludes philosophical, ethical, and ecological discussions. Agnes Eriksen writes for children. She has edited three picture books in Kven language, a collection of rhymes and riddles, and a series of school textbooks as mentioned above. As for 121
